Critics didn’t have time for Stephen Miller’s wild claim that people are “wearing their watches again” because of President Donald Trump’s federal troop intervention in Washington, D.C.

With Trump in the room, the White House deputy chief of staff made the dubious assertion while hyping other alleged effects of deploying the National Guard in the capital. The takeover happened after the capital hit a 30-year low in violent crime (the administration disputes the data) and most residents say they feel less safe after the takeover.

But Miller repeated GOP suggestions that the “overflowing with gratitude” public is frequently and openly thanking federalized law enforcement there.

“For the first time in their lives, they can use the parks, they can walk on the streets,” Miller said. “You have people who can walk freely at night without having to worry about being robbed or mugged.”

But it was Miller’s detour into timepieces that prompted one social media observer to tell Miller to “GTFO.”
