The Notting Hill Carnival clean-up has begun with council teams working overnight to collect the mountains of rubbish left behind - including a whole skip's worth of laughing gas cannisters.

Photos from the aftermath of the world-famous street festival in west London show piles of empty drink cans and food packages littering the streets.

Workers in high viz jackets were spotted clearing the mess in the early hours of this morning after more than one million revellers partied in the area over the bank holiday weekend.

Yesterday, Kensington and Chelsea Council said an estimated 150 tonnes of rubbish had already been removed after the first day of festivities.

The Met Police arrested a total of 423 people at the carnival, which celebrates Caribbean culture, this year - 223 on Monday, as well as 200 on Sunday.
