A British tourist has died after falling from the window of a third-floor flat at a popular South African coastal resort.

The 68-year-old man, who has not yet been named, plunged from the apartment just after midnight on August 23 in Ramsgate, a picturesque seaside village on KwaZulu-Natal's South Coast.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after receiving reports that a holidaymaker had toppled from the three-storey window.

Craig Botha, spokesperson for the KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service, said paramedics arrived to find the man critically injured after the fall.

Advanced Life Support interventions were immediately initiated at the scene.
