Blue-green algae has infected the UK's largest freshwater lake with experts branding it the 'worst' they've ever seen.
A crisis was declared for the third summer in a row this week following the rapid spread of the plant at Lough Neagh in the centre of Northern Ireland.
Eel-fishing season has been cut short and two north coast beaches closed for bathing as a result of the spread - but ministers insist they are 'determined to turn the situation around'.
Striking images show how large swathes of water have now turned a swamp-like green, with not a single blue patch in sight.
Onlookers can be seen staring on at the crisis and lone eels are even pictured as they struggle above the surface.
