or the past 15 years I have been running a business that sells tools, electrical and hardware items on Amazon. This year I was the victim of a scam, which has left my business £10,000 out of pocket and unable to get at another £17,000.
It all started when I had a message through my seller account from a scammer pretending to be Amazon. The message said my account was undergoing a security check and asked me to click on a link and enter a code. I did this and unknowingly ended up giving the scammer access to my Amazon account.
The scammer then set themselves up as a user of my account, changed my password, my primary email address, and the bank details linked to the account. I first realised what had happened when I had an email from Amazon telling me that my details had changed.
Within minutes I called Amazon to flag the fraud and ask it to stop any withdrawals. The agent reassured me that something would be done about it. I then noticed that the fraudster had messaged Amazon through our account saying that everything was fine.
