The story of rival warlords battling it out in one of the world’s most war-torn countries has been told today in gripping detail.

The latest episode of the Daily Mail's hugely popular Battle Board YouTube series explains the long-running and complex conflict in the African country of Sudan.

Using a series of easy-to-follow maps and pictures, foreign correspondent Chris Pleasance explains to viewers the country's history, as well as the latest fighting.

Chris describes how it has been 69 years since Sudan gained independence from Britain, but at least 59 of them have been marred by conflict.

He points out that after independence Sudan's newly elected government was weak, divided, and struggling to get anything done amid a civil war that was already underway between north and south.
