California sheriff’s deputies are still searching for a missing infant after his parents were arrested on murder charges.

On Friday, Aug. 22, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jake and Rebecca Haro at their Southern California home. The boy's mother initially told authorities 7-month-old Emmanuel had been kidnapped on Aug. 14. Investigators determined the kidnapping never occurred.

The sheriff's department didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Here’s what we know about the case.

The evening of Aug. 14, deputies responded to the Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Yucaipa, about 20 miles from the Haro family’s home in Cabazon, a desert community in the Inland Empire, less than 20 miles from Palm Springs. Rebecca Haro, 41, told officials that, while she was standing outside her car in the parking lot, changing her son’s diaper, she was physically assaulted by an unknown man who left her unconscious, according to a sheriff’s news release. When she came to, she explained to officials, her infant son was gone.
