The Pope has praised Keir Starmer's £35billion deal to surrender the Chagos Island to Mauritius as a 'significant victory' repaired a 'grave injustice'.
Pope Leo XIV met at the Vatican with a delegation of refugees from Chagos some 2,000 of whom who were evicted from their homes by the contested Indian Ocean archipelago.
It comes after Sir Keir Starmer agreed to the controversial giveaway of Britain's territory in the Indian Ocean by the end of the year.
The Prime Minister claimed the deal, which will cost £35billion, was necessary to secure a vital Anglo-American military base there.
Britain is set to then lease back the Diego Garcia military base, which was constructed by the UK in the 1970s, and then used by both UK and US forces.
