The district administration has restrained the Vinayaka Chathurthi celebration committees from bursting of crackers as part of the festival.In a press release, Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam has said that the decision to ban fire crackers in the festival had been taken at a “precautionary” meeting of officials held at the District Collectorate here on Wednesday.At the meeting, it was made clear that installation of Vinayaka idols should be allowed after granting of permission by the Revenue Divisional Officer, Fire and Emergency Services, and jurisdictional office of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. Idols made of clay and or environment friendly material with height restriction of 10 feet would only be allowed to be installed and immersed at the waterbodies identified by the officials.Bursting of crackers at or near the Chathurthi celebration sites or during the immersion procession or at the immersion site would not be allowed, she added.
