The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday (August 21, 2025) appointed Satish Golcha as the Delhi Police Commissioner. The move comes a day after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked at her camp office by a man from Rajkot in Gujarat.Satish Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer from the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories) cadre, will be the 26th Commissioner of the Delhi Police. The appointment for the post from the AGMUT cadre comes after four years; the previous two appointments were made from the Tamil Nadu cadre (2022-25) and Gujarat cadre (2021-22).“With the approval of the competent authority, Sh. Satish Golcha, IPS (AGMUT:1992), presently posted as Director General (Prisons), Delhi, is hereby appointed to the post of the Commissioner of Police, Delhi with effect from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders,” said an order by the MHA dated August 21.The senior IPS officer will be replacing S.B.K. Singh, the Director General of Home Guards, who was given additional charge as the Commissioner of Police on August 1. According to a senior government official, the replacement has nothing to do with the attack on the Delhi Chief Minister but something that was in the works already. “Senior IPS officer S.B.K. Singh was given an additional charge while the appointment of the CP was already in the works,” said the officer.Prior to being appointed as the Commissioner, Mr. Golcha served as the Director General (Prisons), Delhi. While his appointment came first on an interim basis after major gang wars and murders were reported from the jails in Delhi, it was later regularised.Prior to this Mr. Golcha had served as Special Commissioner (Intelligence) in the Delhi Police and the Director General of Police (DGP) in Arunachal Pradesh. He was the Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, in 2020, when the riots in northeast Delhi had taken place.
