City’s weather forecaster will assess whether to upgrade it to a No 3 strong wind signal later in the day
The No 1 typhoon signal will remain in force in Hong Kong at least until noon on Sunday, while the weather forecaster will assess the need to upgrade it to No 3 later in the day.
The Hong Kong Observatory said the tropical depression would remain at least 600 kilometres (373 miles) from the city on Sunday morning.
“Under the combined effect of the tropical depression and the ridge of high pressure over southeastern China, local winds are occasionally strong offshore and on high ground,” it said.
“The need for issuing the No 3 strong wind signal thereafter depends on the distance between associated strong winds and the Pearl River Delta, and the change in local winds.”
