Hong Kong’s forecaster is considering cancelling the No 1 typhoon signal between 2pm and 5pm on Thursday as severe weather threats gradually decrease in the city, but says squally showers are still expected throughout the day.
The Hong Kong Observatory said that squally showers related to a tropical depression affected the coast of Guangdong in the past few hours, bringing about 20mm of rainfall over parts of the city with occasionally strong winds offshore and on high ground.
“The tropical depression is expected to make landfall over Leizhou Peninsula around noon, then move into inland areas of Guangxi and depart gradually,” it said.
“Its threat to Hong Kong will decrease gradually in the afternoon. The Observatory will consider cancelling all typhoon signals between 2pm and 5pm.”
