A 17-year-old boy who filmed a 'hero' grandfather as he lay dying on the street before sharing the video on social media has avoided jail.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, recorded Paul Lawrence, 51, after he was killed in the early hours of January 28 last year.

Others could be heard laughing and joking in the background of the video that ended up capturing the tragic last moment's of Mr Lawrence's life.

The boy pleaded guilty to sending a grossly offensive, indecent or menacing message at Worthing Youth Court, West Sussex, yesterday.

He also admitted possessing cannabis and was given a 12-month Youth Referral Order following the incident on Gladonian Road in Littlehampton, West Sussex.
