Haris Chirackal, Head of Urology at the Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, the whistle-blower doctor who brought the attention of authorities to the systemic issues affecting patient care in medical college hospitals, has denied the contentions raised against him in a show-cause notice issued to him by the authorities.
After his Facebook post on July 27 about his distress over having to cancel surgical procedures at the last minute because of the non-availability of an equipment accessory at the Urology department went viral, Dr. Chirackal had been issued a show-cause notice by the Director of Medical Education, asking him to explain why action should not be taken against him for criticising the government openly in violation of the code of conduct binding government employees.
