It is finally curtains down on the high drama that was being enacted over the past few weeks in the health sector, over the revelations by Haris Chirackal, the Head of Urology at Government Medical College on the systemic issues affecting patient care services and the manner in which the system and the health administration chose to react to it.
The press conference by MCH authorities on Friday morning, putting Dr. Chirackal under a cloud over the “missing” equipment and the subsequent turn of events which left the Health department and the MCH authorities red-faced for casting aspersions on Dr. Chirckal, was the final act.
By Saturday morning, Health Minister Veena George, had brokered peace with Dr. Chirackal after visiting him personally. With the Director of Medical Education also writing to the government that the “missing “ equipment was never ever missing, the Health department decided to call it a day as far as action against Dr. Chirackal was concerned.
The Health Minister also gave an assurance to Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association that no action would be pursued against Dr. Chirackal.
Dr. Chirackal made one final appearance before mediapersons on Saturday to state that he was an open book and that he had never anything to fear. He said that Ms. George had expressed much anguish over the raging controversy that his revelations had become and that he would not be making any public appearances anymore, now that everything was in the clear.
