A Texas boy, 13, who is accused of accidentally killing his younger brother with an unsecured firearm, appeared in front of a judge this week as his family pleaded for his release.
On July 25, the teen was handling the gun when it accidentally went off and shot his eight-year-old brother Daniel Casares, the San Antonio Police Department said.
Casares died from a gunshot wound to the head and neck, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.
The brother has been charged with manslaughter and has been in juvenile detention since the shooting.
He had a hearing Monday in front of Judge William 'Cruz' Shaw, who will set the conditions for any possible release.
