Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan on Monday said “honour killings” was not just a State- level problem but a national one. Such killings were committed not only in Tamil Nadu but also in other States including in Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharastra, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.
Such killings should not be treated as an ordinary crime but one that required special attention by enacting a separate law at the national level by the ruling BJP-led government at the Centre, Mr. Thirumavalavan said leading a protest demonstration organised by the VCK at Perambalur. The demonstration was held to urge the State government and the Centre to enact a law to prevent honour killings.
