The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board on Monday announced that it will operate three gates of the Himayatsagar to a height of three feet at 8 p.m., in view of the fast-accumulating flood.

The reservoir, for a full capacity of 2.970 tmcft, as per readings at 6 p.m. was holding 2.687 tmcft water. It was receiving a flood of 2000 cusecs and 2,400 cusecs outflow was being maintained. On Monday, at 6 a.m., only one gate was kept open by one feet. But by 8 a.m., the Board witnessing more flood inflow, decided to operate another gate to let 1,400 cusecs to the downstream.

The inflows kept increasing to 2000 cusecs by 10 a.m., and the Board operated three gates, one by one feet and two others by three feet to let 2,400 cusecs. The flood of 2000 cusecs continued throughout the day. While an outflow of 1,400 cusecs was maintained at 8 a.m., it increased to 2,400 cusecs during the rest of the day.

At 8 p.m., as per last available status at Himayatsagar, the Board was letting 3000 cusecs into the downstream.

Meanwhile, at Osmansagar a constant inflow of about 400 cusecs flood during the day filled the reservoir to a level of 1783.85 feet, as compared to its full tank level of 1,790 feet or 3.900 tmcft capacity.
