Israel's largest labor federation said on Monday it would not call a general strike on Sunday in protest of the government's plan to take over Gaza, following a meeting with families of hostages held there and bereaved families, vowing instead to support workers who "strengthen the families and support the fight for the hostages' return."
The families have stepped up their protests following the cabinet's decision to occupy the Gaza Strip, calling for a general strike on Sunday. They said the strike will begin with private companies, organizations, labor committees, and citizens who take the day off to halt economic activity, and they urged larger institutions to join the effort.
