Five teenagers - including a boy aged 14 - have been arrested after a man was fatally hit by a pick-up truck as he crossed the road.

Lancashire Police said they were called to Burnley Road, close to the junction with York Street, in Crawshawbooth, following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a Toyota Hilux Invincible on Friday night.

A Volkswagen Golf was said to have been in close proximity to the Toyota at the time of the incident, which occurred just after 10pm.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the pedestrian – a man in his 50s – was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family are now being supported by specially trained officers.
