Policing Washington: Federal law enforcement agents were on the streets of Washington as a deployment order by President Trump went into effect, the Washington Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said on social media early Friday. It posted photos of agents wearing A.T.F. and United States Park Police insignia. Mr. Trump, who said he would send an unspecified number of federal agents to the capital, has complained that crime in Washington is “out of control,” even though crime rates in the city have fallen significantly.
