President Donald Trump’s tariffs on goods from over 60 countries and the European Union took effect early Thursday as the Trump administration defied warnings about the detrimental impact his trade policy could have on the U.S. economy.
The president is also reportedly preparing for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that the Kremlin said will take place “in the coming days.” Trump told European leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on Wednesday that he intends to hold a three-way meeting with the wartime leader, Putin and himself shortly after, according to The New York Times.

In addition, the president is still grappling with backlash on both sides of the aisle over his administration’s handling of information on Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced sex offender and financier who died in 2019 under circumstances many have called into question. The Justice Department is allegedly weighing releasing a transcript from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s sit-down with Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell last month.
