The Italian Coast Guard, together with their Japanese counterparts, have presented the Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS) scheduled to take place in Rome on September 11 and 12 this year, at the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.
CGGS is an international platform of dialogue and cooperation between Coast Guard agencies worldwide, set up in 2017 by the Japan Coast Guard and by the Nippon Foundation.
The summit gathers representatives of Coast Guards and agencies with coastguard functions to promote international cooperation and to deal together with rising challenges in maritime safety, security and environmental protection by sharing expertise and best practices.
"We are here today with our representatives to mark the important launch of a cooperation that has already been going on for years with the Japanese Coast Guard", stated Admiral Sergio Liardo, the current Deputy Commander General of Italy's Port Authorities - Coast Guard, who will become Commander in September after his recent appointment by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
Speaking about the CGGS in Rome, Liardo stressed that it is "a very important event".
