A 32-year-old woman was killed after the car in which she was travelling plunged into an irrigation channel along the Tiruchi - Salem highway at Thudaiyur in the district on Wednesday night. Police gave the name of the deceased as M. Thilavakathy of Tiruverumbur.
Police sources said Thilagavathy along with her two children was returning back to Tiruverumbur from Salem in a car that was driven by her husband Murugan when the accident occurred.
Sources said Murugan lost control of the vehicle and veered towards the irrigation channel. The vehicle fell into it leading to the death of the woman. The Vathalai police have registered a case.
