Thanjavur East Police have arrested a group of persons reportedly engaged in the sale of drugs to students in higher education institutions in Thanjavur town.
According to police, two days ago, the District Police Headquarters received information about the sale of drugs to college students in and around Thanjavur. Subsequently, a special team comprising police personnel attached to Thanjavur East Police was formed.
The team arrested Mohammed Abbas, Praveen, Aravind and Venkatesan of Kizhavasal in Thanjavur town coming under Thanjavur East Police Station, Santhosh of Ammapettai, Abishek and Viswa of Vandikara Street, Thanjavur, as they were found to be distributing drugs to college students.
On interrogation, the arrested persons claimed that they received the contraband from Navinkumar of Mariyanathapuram, Dindigul, who served as a medical representative earlier. The special team personnel rushed to Dindigul, apprehended Navinkumar and brought him to Thanjavur for interrogation after seizing more than 600 tablets from his possession. Later the accused were remanded to judicial custody, police added.
