Zara's use of 'unhealthily thin' models has been criticised as 'socially irresponsible' by the advertising watchdog.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received a complaint in May about two product listings on Zara's website, which showed a model in an oversized pocket shirt and another in a voluminous short dress.

The complainant argued the images were irresponsible because the models appeared dangerously underweight.

The fashion giant defended the listings, saying both models had worked for reputable fashion brands and held medical certificates confirming they were in good health.

The company added that the photos were only edited for minor lighting and colour adjustments.
