A labourer working in a private steel unit in SIDCO industrial estate at Mathur in the district was killed in a freak accident inside the unit on Thursday.
Police gave the name of the deceased as P. Ranjith, 19, of Thiruvalarchipatti in Tiruchi district.
Police sources said Ranjith was engaged in work when his hand apparently got sucked inside the machine. He too was pulled in the impact leading to his death. The body was sent to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital at Tiruchi for autopsy. The Mathur police are probing the case.
