Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) dismissed CNN’s Jake Tapper on Wednesday after he confronted her with President Donald Trump’s allegations that both she and her husband have “made a fortune” through insider trading.
“That’s ridiculous!” said the former House speaker, who has stressed that she does not trade stocks herself despite facing criticism over the years due to her husband Paul Pelosi’s success doing so.
Nancy Pelosi has been the subject of unfounded claims over the years that her husband’s investments are fueled by insider information she acquired in Congress. The investments have resulted in a “Pelosi Tracker” as well as efforts to restrict members of Congress from trading stocks.
Such efforts have recently been backed by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), who introduced a bill which advanced in a Senate committee Wednesday that would bar lawmakers and their spouses — as well as future presidents and vice presidents — from trading stocks.
Trump — who has faced accusations of insider trading and market manipulation over his on-again, off-again tariffs — told reporters Wednesday that he “conceptually” likes the legislation before pivoting to talk about the former House speaker.
