Heavy discharge of surplus water has posed threat to the High Tension (HT) power transmission towers erected on the course of the Kollidam river in Tiruchi.
There are 19 HT power transmission towers across the Kollidam river between the No 1 Tollgate and Alagiripuram in Thiruvanaikoil. Of them, two towers collapsed due to heavy discharge of water in the river last year, thereby affecting power supply to the 110 KV substation in Thiruvanaikoil. To set right the issue, Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Ltd (Tantransco) began work on a project to replace two high-tension power transmission towers about a few months ago.
