Trump said he was not worried about the potential effect of sanctions, saying the US will boost domestic oil production to offset any impact
US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he would start imposing tariffs and other measures on Russia “10 days from today” if Moscow did not make progress towards ending the war in Ukraine.
Trump, who first announced on Monday that he was shortening his initial 50-day deadline for action from Moscow, said he had not heard a response from Russia.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that Russia is determined to achieve its goals in Ukraine, though he said Moscow has “taken note” of Trump’s announcement and is committed to seeking a peaceful solution.
Zelensky welcomed Trump’s shortening of the deadline. “Everyone needs peace – Ukraine, Europe, the United States and responsible leaders across the globe,” he wrote in a post on Telegram. “Everyone except Russia.”
