A senior finance executive who worked just 18 days in an entire year while off sick sued for discrimination after he was only given a 'disappointing' £10,000 bonus.
Matthew Colliander-Smith was struck down with Long Covid and was only able to work for eight per cent of his usual hours in 2022, an employment tribunal heard.
Having been awarded almost £190,000 in an annual bonus the previous year, the asset management firm partner said he was 'shocked', 'angry' and 'upset' when he was given the much smaller award for the year he had been off sick.
He argued that given how much harder it was for him to do any work due to his illness, his efforts should have been better rewarded, suggesting an award closer to £100,000.
Veritas Asset Management eventually agreed to increase that to £40,000 despite Mr Colliander-Smith having been unable to perform the vast majority of his duties.
