Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Monday met Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi with regard to the release of pending Samagra Shiksha funds. He submitted a memorandum urging for the immediate release of funds, including the first instalment allotted for 2025-26. He was accompanied by Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi, School Education Department Secretary B. Chandra Mohan, and State Samagra Shiksha Project Director M. Aarthi.

The Centre has withheld its share of funds amount to ₹2,152 crore for the year 2024-25 after Tamil Nadu did not accept provisions of the National Education Policy. In March this year, the State government decided to bear the funds the Union government had withheld. The funds are used to pay salaries, conduct teacher training programmes, reimburse private schools under the Right to Education Act, and maintenance of school and transportation infrastructure, among others.
