A five-day 40-hour mediation training programme commenced in Guntur on Monday under the directives of the Supreme Court Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC), New Delhi, and the State Legal Services Authority, Amaravati.
The initiative, organised by the Guntur District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), aims to enhance the skills of Permanent Lok Adalat for Public Utility Services (PLAPUS) chairpersons and members selected by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
District Principal Judge and DLSA Chairman B. Sai Kalyan Chakravarthi inaugurated the session by lighting the ceremonial lamp, in the presence of DLSA Guntur secretary Syed Ziyauddin. Senior trainers, advocate Ratna Tara and advocate S. Sathya Rao, deputed by the Supreme Court MCPC from Tamil Nadu, are conducting the programme, which will run until August 1.
Speaking at the event, Justice Chakravarthi observed that mediation in Andhra Pradesh has not yet achieved its intended impact due to several legal and procedural challenges. He emphasised that commercial disputes are often easier to resolve at the initial stage through mediation than property or matrimonial conflicts. Stressing the growing importance of alternative dispute resolution, he urged participants to strengthen their mediation expertise to meet Supreme Court standards.
