The Finance department has reiterated the need for keeping economy and accelerated revenue collection in mind when preparing the estimates for the 2026-27 State Budget.

The Finance department has asked the State government departments to submit the estimates for their non-plan expenditure by September 10, plan expenditure estimates by September 15 and the estimates on revenue and other receipts not later than September 20.

The next Budget presentation of the Left Democratic Front government is not expected to be a full one with the State preparing for the Legislative Assembly elections in mid-2026.

“The financial constraints being faced by the State government make it imperative for the government to prepare the Budget 2026-27 with austerity. As a general rule, the non-plan revenue Budget, excluding salaries of each unit, should be retained at the current year’s level,” K.R. Jyothilal, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), said in a circular issued to the departments.

The estimates in respect of revenue and other dues to the government should be prepared taking into account the need to accelerate collections, the department said. Further, the Finance department has also directed the departments to list out the reasons for the accumulation of revenue arrears.
