A 78-year-old man died early Saturday (July 26, 2025) after a tree fell on his house during a severe cyclone that hit the Kolayad region of Kannur district.
The deceased has been identified as Eniyadan Chandran of Peruva Thettumal. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when strong winds uprooted a tree that crashed onto his residence.
Chandran, who was inside at the time, succumbed to injuries on the spot. Local authorities and rescue teams rushed to the scene but were unable to save him.
In another incident, a fisherman went missing, who went in a small boat in Palakkode in Kannur.
Two of them ventured into the Moottam Palakkode river after starting from Chootad beach. However, in the strong winds, they lost direction and the boat went turtle. Both fell into the river. While one of them managed to swim to the bank, Abraham reportedly went missing.
