As Texas begins to assess the toll of catastrophic flash floods over the July Fourth weekend, experts say the devastation underscores the importance of flood insurance.

More than 100 people have died as a result of the floods along the Guadalupe River in Texas’ Hill Country, with scores more still missing. Search and rescue efforts in affected areas continue. President Donald Trump on Sunday signed a federal disaster declaration for Kerr County, which was heavily impacted.

Accuweather estimated the disaster caused $18 billion to $22 billion in damage and economic losses.
