Three migrant workers killed early Friday morning after a dilapidated two-storey building collapsed in Kodakara. The deceased have been identified as Rahul (19), Rupel (21), and Aleem (30) — all hailing from Uttar Pradesh.

The century-old structure, built with laterite stones, housed migrant workers and is located near the Kodakara panchayat office. The building reportedly crumbled around 6 a.m., shortly before the workers were about to leave for work. Heavy rains over the past few days are believed to have weakened the building, leading to the collapse.

According to local people, 17 workers had been staying in the building. Upon hearing a loud cracking noise, 14 managed to flee to safety. However, as Rahul, Rupel, and Aleem attempted to escape, the front portion of the concrete structure gave way and collapsed on them.

Rescue efforts were launched immediately by fellow workers and local residents. Since access to the building was limited to a narrow path behind several commercial establishments, fire and rescue teams had to demolish a nearby compound wall to bring in equipment. Rupel was found dead at the scene, while Rahul, though alive when found, succumbed to injuries at a nearby private hospital. Aleem’s body was recovered after nearly three hours of search operations.
