From the earliest days of the New York democratic mayoral primary campaign, Israel was pushed front and center. At the first televised debate, moderators turned to Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani and asked if, as mayor, he would travel to Israel. He replied: "I'll be meeting Jewish New Yorkers wherever they are across the five boroughs."
