Pope Leo XIV is "deeply saddened" by Sunday's suicide bombing of the St.
Elijah Greek Orthodox Church in Damascus in which killed 25 people were killed, according to a telegram of condolence signed by Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin.
The American pope expressed "heart-felt solidarity with all those hit by this tragedy," the telegram said.
It said Leo was praying "also for those who mourn their loss, for the healing of the wounded" and for "the gifts of consolation, healing and peace of the Almighty" for Syria.
