Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday that the breach in the ceasefire between Israel and Iran could be a sign of divisions in Tehran as she reported to parliament before this week's EU summit.
"This morning the scenario was going in the direction we had hoped for," Meloni told the Senate in relation to US President Donald Trump's announcement of the ceasefire.
"Now the situation has become more complicated again because the truce has been violated by Iran.
"Israel may respond, hopefully in a commensurate, symmetrical way.
"After the violation, however, Iran confirmed its desire for a truce and this could be read as a division within Iran, which must be taken into account.
