Europe’s critical jet fuel supply lines are in serious jeopardy at the start of a busy summer season for aviation. Recent days have seen an escalation of fighting between Israel and Iran that could disrupt Mideast Gulf fuel flows through the Strait of Hormuz and the EU mull a new package of Russia sanctions that would ban imports of jet fuel and other products refined using Russian crude. Middle distillate markets have already had to adjust to a European ban on direct Russian fuel imports and the rerouting of East of Suez tankers around Africa to avoid Houthi attacks along the Red Sea route to the Suez Canal in the last year or so.
