The opposition's allegedly using "election campaign tones" amid the government's response to the Middle East crisis is out of place, Premier Giorgia Meloni told parliament Monday.

"I don't want to respond to the controversy, to some falsehoods and election campaign tone," she said in her reply to a debate on her briefing on EU and NATO summits this week.

"I believe that you perceive the citizens' concern as I do and we don't want to give the impression that we are more interested in accusing each other than" in the interest of Italy, "I prefer to postpone the tone of the election campaign".
