An African anticyclone is dominating Italy, bringing extreme heat and mugginess everywhere, forecaster Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist for the website www.iLMeteo.it, said Thursday saying that temperatures will increase further until Sunday.
"The mercury will rise by 1°C per day, reaching 37°C in Florence, 38°C in Terni, Oristano, Siracusa, Foggia and Ragusa, with peaks of 39°C in the Agrigento area and even 42°C in the most internal and remote areas of flat Sardinia".
The sky will be clear except for a few brief afternoon showers over the Western Alps between Thursday and Friday.
On Saturday, instability will increase and there will be a few more showers over the Dolomites, again during the hottest hours of the day.
On Sunday, thunderstorms will also hit the Po Valley in the late afternoon and slightly less warm air is expected to enter from the Porta della Bora.
