Flight 171 was bound for Gatwick Airport, authorities in London confirmed, as search and rescue teams deployed.
The airline confirms in a statement on X that the downed plane carried 242 passengers and crew members.
“Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals”, Air India said.
