“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart said the unrest in Los Angeles is a “predictable outcome” of heavy-handed federal tactics in the city ― and that led him to one key question about President Donald Trump. “What’s it meant to distract from?” he wondered, then added sarcastically: “I mean, I can’t even remember, what were we even talking about right before the first Waymo went up in flames?” He quickly answered his own question: accusations by Trump’s former ally, Elon Musk, that the president is named in the Jeffrey Epstein files that the administration had promised to release, then didn’t. Stewart pointed to a curious interview last year in which Trump quickly answered “yes” when asked if he would declassify files related to 9/11 and JFK.But when asked about Epstein ― the late sex offender who was once friendly with Trump ― he paused, then hemmed.Stewart said Musk is threatening to expose Trump, and Trump is threatening to go after Musk’s government contracts. “It must be hard for the right to see how petty and petulant these two man-babies are, and how they wield their power in vindictive and capricious manners when they don’t get exactly their way, and the damage that that behavior causes,” Stewart said. “And I guess, what I would say to the right is: Welcome to our fucking world. Every day. Now you know!” He pointed to Trump’s threats against Harvard University, law firms, Canada, and media companies, all for opposing him or standing in his way.“You on the right didn’t give a shit when Godzilla and Mothra teamed up to destroy the city,” Stewart said. “You’re only mad that now they’re fighting each other, ’cuz you just got a taste of their paper-thin, oversensitive, fragile, ego-driven nihilism.” Stewart noted that many on the right see the battle as one between two “giants” or “alpha males.” In reality, he said, it’s nothing more than a cat fight between “a couple of fucking pussies,” and rolled the footage to match.
