CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten on Monday revealed that a majority of Americans side with Donald Trump and the GOP’s views on immigration amid the president’s aggressive response to Los Angeles protests over his policies.
Enten — in a segment with CNN’s John Berman — pointed to three separate polls where respondents favored Republicans more than Democrats when asked which party they aligned with or trusted more to tackle the issue.
“The American electorate believe that the Democrats don’t have a clue on the issue of immigration,” said Enten of a party wading through historically bad approval ratings.
He argued that polling shows why Trump — as the U.S. military is reportedly set to send in hundreds of Marines to protests in Los Angeles until more National Guard troops arrive — is “eager to take on this fight” in the city.
Trump’s latest move follows a weekend of protests that have taken over headlines as demonstrators speak out against Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and the administration’s mass deportations in his second term.
