The National Hurricane Center in Miami is tracking a hurricane and a tropical storm, marking the season's first hurricane.
Hurricane Barbara and Tropical Storm Cosme are being tracked through the eastern Pacific Ocean, off the coast of southwestern Mexico, according to the NHC.
Barbara was "near hurricane strength" early Monday morning, but has now officially become the 2025 Hurricane Season's first hurricane. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, the NHC stated Monday morning.
Hurricane Barbara is expected to weaken back down to a tropical storm in the ocean by Tuesday morning, while Tropical Storm Cosme is expected to weaken by Wednesday morning.
Another area of low pressure off the coast of Mexico is expected to develop into a tropical depression later this week as "environmental conditions appear conducive for some gradual development of this system," according to the NWS.
