Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has threatened of massive protest if Dakshina Kannada police arrest Bajrang Dal activist Bharath Kumdelu in connection with murder of sand transporter Abdul Rahiman on May 27.

Talking to reporters in Mangaluru on Saturday, Convenor of VHP Karnataka Dakshina division Prabhanjan Soorya said police were under pressure to fix Bharath Kumdelu in the murder. Police searched his house recently. Though its reported that Rahiman’s murder was for personal reasons, the police were looking for evidence to book Bharath Kumdelu in Rahiman’s murder.

“If the police arrest Bharath Kumdelu, then VHP will carry out a massive protest across the State,” he said.

While seeking a fair investigation into the recent mob lynching and two murders, Mr. Soorya said members of VHP and its affiliated units were unnecessarily put under police surveillance. The police were visiting houses of members late in the nights and inquiring them. Action by police now was in continuation of move during the earlier rule of Siddaramaih to ban Bajrang Dal.

“Such targeted action will not deter activists from working for cause of desha, dharma, and sanghatane,” he said.
