Marks & Spencer has revealed disruption from a major cyber attack is expected to continue through to July and cost the company around £300million.

The British high street giant halted orders on its website and saw empty shelves after being targeted by hackers around a month ago over the Easter weekend.

Now, the retailer - which has 64,000 staff and 565 stores - has said online sales and profits in its fashion, home and beauty business have been 'heavily impacted'.

Meanwhile, food sales were affected by reduced availability but the firm stressed this is 'already improving' in a financial performance update to the stock market today.

M&S said the incident is set to reduce operating profits by about £300million this year, but this will be reduced through cost management, other action and insurance.
