Marlon Wayans said he never got married because he didn’t want to make his mom “jealous” — and now, the internet is sounding off about the “strange” statement after the comedian’s comments recently resurfaced over the weekend.
The “Scary Movie” star previously told The New York Times that he had decided not to wed because “I never wanted my mother to be jealous of a woman.”
He described his late mother, Elvira, who died in 2020 at 81, as “very needy.”
“I never wanted my mother to feel second to any woman,” he explained in the story, published in May 2024. “I told my mother on her deathbed, ‘I never got married because I always wanted you to be my No. 1 girl.’ Those were my last words. I said, ‘Take that to heaven with you.’”
While many social media users were initially unaware of Wayans’ statement, his words began making the rounds on X, formerly Twitter, over the weekend in a post that’s already amassed 6 million views.
